Playing online poker for fun.
along with the increase in popularity of online poker came the increase in the number of poker players playing full time online. It can appear that almost every person you meet at the tables is either already a professional or is about to turn pro real soon. The rise in player numbers has seen a similiar increase in the volume of poker strategy tips that is being offered to poker players. Now you can find ebooks, videos, coaching, schooling or join any number of poker advice sites to get help with your poker game. One other area of internet poker that has had a lot of growth is the poker sotware tools market. Now you simply can not concievably play poker online without an armory full of poker software to help with your game.
Well, that’s all great but there are still some players who simply want to play just for entertainment. It seems to me that there might be a good few of these recreational poker players still looking for a game. Every poker player does not want to be a pro poker player, and certainly not every one has the talent to be one.
Despite the fact that the number of internet poker players has increased dramatically during the last ten years, the number of players that win remains about the same percentage. Statistically, between five and ten percent of poker players actually turn a profit.
A small number of players would be winning players without the rake, but after paying that they will end up about even. The remaining players, which is most online players, are of course losing players.
I don’t see a lot wrong with that. Poker as a Pastime can be lots of fun, and it is much more likely to be fun compared to the same game played as a job by a pro. Players that are only playing for fun can use good bank roll management and play at the lowest limits in order to minimize the cost of their hobby. With correct bankroll management playing losing poker can actually be cheaper than many other entertainment pursuits, such as going to restaurants or bars.
The advantages that playing poker online has over other entertainment avenues is that you have some chance, no matter how slim, of ending up with a profit on their online gaming, which is never likely with most other entertainments available.
Putting aside the cost of losing at poker for a moment, there are some other, positive, parts of online poker other than the sheer fun of playing. This social aspect to poker is not repeated in other solitary pastimes
I feel that the current view seems to be that every player should be aiming to be a professional poker player, while the reality is the more casual outlook could lead to a more enjoyable experience for many players. Taking the pressure off of yourself and treating the game as a bit of fun could be the key to a happier poker experience for many players.
