The Green Lifestyle: The Positive Trend to Change the Philippines

Green is the color of life. Green signifies the environment. Green stands for health, growth and renewal. But for smart Filipinos, green stands for hope and change!

It all started in February 9, the official start of the election campaigns. It was a bright day for millions of Filipinos as they attended their candidates’ respected kickoff rallies.  It was indeed a bright day for the supporters of, Lakas-Kampi-CMD presidential bet, Secretary Gilbert “Gibo” Teodoro, the Green Team. The Green team was founded in September 16, 2009 in Facebook, with only one goal in mind, to aid Gibo in his campaign. Several hundreds of people wore vibrant green coloured shirts as they cheer for the Green Team’s presidential bet in Antipolo City. Since that day, Gibo’s trend in campaigning started to be recognized.

Gibo’s campaign is all about positivity. Well, we can all say that green is the color of peaceful campaigning for the Green Team. A lot of people started wearing green shirts to show their support. A lot of them started to be volunteers. All of them saw hope. All of them felt that it was the right time to act for all the Filipinos’ sake. All of them saw that it was with him that change will be brought to this country. But Gibo said “No”. He said change will start in each and every Filipino and he will just represent that change. More and more people started to wear G1BO ballers and went to volunteer centers to help. Now, the Green Team, the team inspired by hope, led the way.

All throughout the campaign, Gibo told people of his platform, nothing but pure platform. He went to all these places speaking about his platform. No negative things. No mudslinging. No bad criticisms to fellow candidates. Everything done in the positive light. This made his supporters become more dedicated and inspired to help. Volunteers used their own efforts, time, money and energy to help in the campaign and to help people choose a better leader.

But it seemed to be insufficient to get people out from “sightlessness”.

May 11, 2010, the day after the automated elections, the country rejoiced for the success of the very first automated elections. The results are clear and the Green Team lost their fight. It was a successful election and it was a great fight for the Green Team. Gibo ended up fourth in the elections but he ranked first in the hearts of many. Today, Gibo gave his congratulations to the 15th President of the Republic of the Philippines and accepted that he lost the election. This is a manly act for a presidential candidate and it mirrors positivity. “What a great man!” I said.

The elections may be over but Gibo’s advocacy of living a positive way of life has not yet gone out. Many people are now swearing for living this positive way of life that will help the Filipinos rise up for change. We call this the “Green Lifestyle.”

The Green Lifestyle is inspired by what Secretary Gibo has shown the Filipinos and hope this will inspire many to change their ways for a better country. This is what the Green Lifestyle entails:

  • Think Positive – do not think of hatred; think of peace. Do not think of vengeance; think of unity. Do not think of losing; think of a fair fight. Think of prosperity. Think of change. Think of hope.
  • Do not say bad words to and about people – You do not need to tell people that a person is bad just to make your own image look better. Focus on yourself and how to make yourself better. Do not step on people’s heads to get to the top. Before you say ill about someone, look at yourself first.
  • Be smart – use your conscience, your brain and your heart to make your every decision. Do not be easily persuaded by anything. Think first before you act. Think what is best for all.
  • Be honest – Honesty is really the best policy. If you live with it, you’ll be living with people respecting you.
  • Be an action-man not a chatterbox – Filipinos are already tired of listening to words. They are starving for action! Start with yourself and then encourage people to do it as well.
  • Have initiative – This all comes with everything.
  • Be humble – Accept defeat with no harsh feelings. Be down-to-earth.
  • Unite people – be a person that will encourage unity. With every Filipino united, will anything be impossible?
  • Be a role-model – As what most people say, change starts with you. Obey the laws; cross the street with the pedestrian lane; do not beat the red light; do not put bubble gum under your chair’s desk; do not vandalize your desk; pay your taxes; throw your trash on the proper places; pray; be loyal to your spouse; strive to do the everything in the right way.
  • Show respect to others.
  • Do not be self-centered and think for the common good.

This is the Green Lifestyle inspired by the Green Team. Let us swear that we will live by this way of life and work hard to make a better me and a better country. Let us be GREEN and lead the nation to its best! Sulong Pilipinas! Sulong G1BO! Thank you for being such a wonderful inspiration.
