Why Asia Will Eventually Dominate Future Poker Tournaments

There is an increasing consensus that all roads will eventually lead to Asia. Businesses of all kinds are now directing their investments and efforts to the Asian market, which will become the world’s biggest economic region later in the 21st century, with the likes of the IMF even speculating it will be the case as early as 2030.

Gambling conglomerates are no exception to this as it is common knowledge that Asians in general love to gamble a lot. Visit a casino anywhere in the world and you are likely to find someone who is Asian or of Asian-descent either using the slot machines, video slot machines, video poker machines, or hanging out in the poker, blackjack, craps, or baccarat tables playing with other people.

The Asian gambling market is so enormous that Macau is now regarded as the world’s gambling capital in terms of revenue from the activity, far outstripping Las Vegas, its North American rival, and forcing Sin City’s casino and gaming operators to set up shop in the area to make up for the sluggish growth of revenue in their home city, especially in the wake of the recent Global Financial Crisis.

Without any doubt, this will only increase as the next several years come to pass, and as Asia’s economies continue to grow, leading some experts and industry players (such as US casino tycoon Sheldon Adelson) to even doubt “Five Asian Las Vegases” would be enough for the regional market, according to an AFP article published in the Singapore Strait Times on June 23, 2010. It goes without saying it will not be too long before gambling events in the region such as big poker tournaments will offer really large amounts of cash, if they haven’t started yet.

Internet companies are no slouches either with regard to the Asian market. They know their future is in the region and will do everything they can to cater to their regional clients. Many of them strive to offer the same games that are played in actual casinos, including poker, blackjack, craps, baccarat, video poker, video slot machines, and many more.

Internet gambling is already a big industry, with enough clout to bring about online poker tournaments, with players playing from every part of the world simultaneously, which have jackpots in the millions of US Dollars. Having the Asian market grow to its fullest potential (as the region gets richer and more people log on to the internet) will undisputedly bring the amounts even higher in the future.

What does that mean for the Asian gambler who wants to get his/her thrills without needing to get on a plane and booking a hotel? The choices and options will definitely grow in the years to come. However, they would have to be aware of the following when choosing an online casino:

1) Be very wary of sites that offer unrealistically good deals.

2) Read the conditions and stipulations of each specific website (they will invariably vary).

3) Most importantly, the reputation of the operator (which hinges on whether or not it can be counted on to pay the winners). If there are independent sites that allow customers to review the websites, they should be checked out as they are written from personal experience.

Gambling can be thrilling, but it is no fun for a gambler if the operator will not pay him/her back fair and square. Gamblers should always keep this in mind if/when they decide to go online instead to get their fix.
